The use of Face ID to unlock your Apple devices is indeed a function favoured by users. However, at this point, everyone is still required to wear a face mask and this can lead to a bit of a hassle for Apple users to unlock their iPhones. To mitigate this, Apple had already given users the advantage to unlock the device by matching it to a worn Apple Watch. So, users can access the device easily without having to enter any password or face scan again.

All this will change for Apple users because the iOS 15.4 update will allow the Face ID feature to recognize the face of the device owner even if they are wearing a face mask. So far, the feature is still being tested on iOS 15.4 Beta which is expected to be offered this week.

As reported by 9To5Mac, Apple says that iPhone devices can identify the uniqueness of distinctive features found on the user’s eye area for that verification. So, users can access the device easily even while wearing a face mask after this. New settings labelled ‘Use Face ID With a Mask’ will be added to the security settings section as well as the option of recognizing the user’s face through frequently used glasses. There are reports that say this feature will not work for users who are wearing sunglasses.
