Calling all sweet tooths who are craving a dessert that’s rich in Indian culture and comfortingly delicious! Whether it’s for breakfast, tea or dessert this versatile thin pancake is a must-try for all Malaysians.

The appam is a unique pancake like breakfast snack or dessert that originates from South India and Sri Lanka. It’s created with fermented rice batter and coconut milk for a soft, sweet and ever so slightly tangy flavour that is irresistible to any foodie.

Most appams in Malaysia have a coconut milk-infused spongy center with crispy soft edges. It is typically prepared over a high fire in pans that resemble shallow bowls called appachattis.
