With Christmas upon us in just a matter of days, everyone is stocking up on their purchases, be it for their homes, gifts, or even food. However, one Indonesian man may have proved that you don’t need to go broke just to have beautiful decor around you during the festive season.
TikTok creator Roy Koro recently shared a video of himself creating a makeshift Christmas tree at a restaurant he works at to his account @roymarthen31. In the video, Roy constructs a life-sized triangular prism using cardboard and some masking tape. Wrapping the sturdy creation meticulously with Christmas garlands, Roy creates what, when completed, resembles a legitimate Christmas tree.
After he is done wrapping the prism with the garlands, he proceeds to hang decorations on the “tree”, including bobbles, candy canes, streamers, and finishing it off with a Santa Claus topper.
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Roy said that the idea came to him after discovering how expensive Christmas trees are, providing context for the cost of this decorative feature in his home country.
“Christmas trees of the exact same height here could cost as much as IDR2,200,000 (approximately RM662). That’s the minimum salary for an employee living in Indonesia, especially the area I reside at,” said Roy to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Doing some research shortly after, the TikTok creator stated that he came across others constructing similar trees for their homes and businesses, inspiring him to make one of his own. Possessing all the materials on-hand, Roy stated that the entire tree took him about four hours to make, but only cost him IDR250,000 (approximately RM75).
Garnering a massive response online, many people praised Roy for his sheer creativity, saying that his makeshift tree looks better than most real Christmas trees.
“People today are making Christmas trees in the most creative manner, it’s very good!” wrote one user.
