Tragedy struck newly-weds and their family in the state of Chhattisgarh, India after the bride’s ex-boyfriend sent a bomb disguised as a home music system.
Just a few days after being married, the groom, Hemendra Merawi (22), was opening wedding presents on April 3rd with his brother, Rajkumar (30).
One of the presents came from Sarju Markam, 33, an ex-boyfriend of the new bride.
Hemendra Merawi died instantly as he plugged in the home music system, detonating the built in bomb made by Sarju Markam.
The brother of Hemendra, Rajkumar also perished despite efforts to save him from the explosion.
An 18-month-old toddler and four other family members also suffered injuries from the blast.
Following Indian wedding customs, the bride was still living at her parents’ house at the time of explosion.
Police interviewed the bride and other family members before focusing on the bride’s ex-boyfriend, Sarju Markam as the main suspect.
Ex-boyfriend from HELL!
Investigators discovered that Sarju Markam, a married man with kids, was unhappy when the bride declined to become his 2nd wife. He had called the couple a day before their wedding threatening and urging them to not get married.
Detectives told the media that Markam became vengeful after the phone calls and devised his deadly plan.
Having worked at a stone-crushing facility before with experiences as an electrician, Sarju Markam was able to create the DIY bomb. The DIY-ed bomb’s explosion that killed Hemendra and Rajkumar was so powerful that it tore off the home’s roof and destroyed three walls.
It is believed that on the day of the wedding on 31st March, Markam hid the wrapped music system under a few wedding presents before leaving.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ family during this tragic time.
