The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has revealed that within just a four-hour period, the department recorded over 100 vehicles misusing the emergency lanes along the North-South Expressway from Johor Bharu to Putrajaya. The vehicles were spotted driving on the emergency lane in a period between 10am to 2pm yesterday (21 January 2023).
According to BERNAMA, JPJ in a statement further elaborated that the offence was detected during the special traffic operation implemented on all highways nationwide for the Chinese New Year (CNY) festive season. The department stressed,
“JPJ wants to emphasise that this offence (driving on the emergency lane) is among the seven offences that will not be compoundable but will land you straight in court,”
As we’ve reported previously, the seven traffic offences that will land individuals straight to court this CNY period are:
- Queue-jumping
- Overtaking on double lines
- Running traffic lights
- Speeding
- Using your handphone while driving
- Not wearing seatbelts or helmets
- Driving in emergency lanes
JPJ urged the public to comply with the road rules throughout the festive period so as to avoid congestion and worse, causing fatal road accidents. The department also announced that the public can channel their complaints on traffic offences through the e-Aduan@jpj on the MyJPJ application or email aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my.
