The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has refuted a viral post on social media that it will take action against drivers of public transport carrying illegal immigrants.

In a statement by the Immigration Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, a notice allegedly from JIM that has gone viral on social media is not actually from the department but a fabrication.

Ruslin said that the notice was created and spread by irresponsible quarters and urged the public not to simply believe any information without first confirming its authenticity.

He further stressed that the department would not be taking any legal action against public transport drivers who don’t know the status of their foreign passengers. Furthermore, these drivers don’t have the authority or should be burdened with asking passengers for proof of their legal entry to Malaysia.

Nevertheless, should these drivers be found to purposefully and knowingly protect individuals who violate the Immigration Act 1959/63, actions can be taken against them as per Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act.

So, what do you guys think of the statement by the Immigration director-general? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
