In the video, which shows the online Math class on a laptop, the teacher, known as Fathi, can be seen giving what looks like an Algebra lesson on a virtual whiteboard in English.

However, the lesson was interrupted when the teacher noticed a comment left by one of his students, known as Shamil, who criticised the teacher for holding the lesson in English.

The comment read,

“I’m a Malay, sir, not a coloniser.”

Taken aback by the comment, Fathi then replied to the student, asking him what made him write such a comment.

The teacher calmly asserted,

“Can I know Shamil? Do you feel great when you say something like that?

“Do you feel you’re very ‘Malay’? Or that you’re at a higher level? Is this something taught to you all this while?”

Fathi added that his lessons are actually in both Bahasa Melayu and English. Moreover, the teacher stressed that he was not teaching the students Math so that they could only be a “Jaguh Kampung” or someone who’s only a champion in their own backyard.

Malaysians give their 2 cents on the video

In the replies to the X post, many Malaysians found the student to be lacking in manners and felt sorry for the teacher for having to deal with such a student.

One commenter noted that the teacher looked to be holding back his anger and called the student rude.

Another commenter echoed the same sentiment but praised the teacher for still being soft-spoken after experiencing such rude behaviour.
