Education is important, especially basic education like reading and writing because with these skills in hand, your chances of landing a job is increased.
In order to improve herself, this lady from the Guizhou province, China decided to enrol herself in her daughter’s kindergarten to learn how to read and write, reported South China Morning Post. A+ for effort!
Why does she want to learn to read and write?
Well, Shi Xiaoqin, 31, who has never gotten an education when she was young, signed up for kindy so she can help her daughter learn at home. Not only that, she also hopes that in the future, her 5-year-old daughter will have a better shot at getting a good job. Every mother’s dream.
“I don’t care what others think of me. Accompanying my daughter in class not only helps me pick up new knowledge but also allows me to teach my daughter better,” she said.
She’s got her priorities right!
Besides that, the mother of two also wishes that by learning to read and write, her own chances of getting a job will also improve. According to her, there were times when her illiteracy had prevented her from getting a job.
On the other hand, the school is happy to accept Shi’s application although she is older than her teacher. They said that they are touched by her courage. Well, we are too!
Her teacher, Chi Mingxia, also commented on how hardworking Shi is and that she’s making good progress.
“Shi Xiaoqin studies hard. She has grasped a lot of Mandarin’s pinyin and recognises many characters. She has set a good example for the other children at our school,” said Chi.
Of course, Shi is still an adult, so although she gets to interact with her classmates during break time, she still has adult responsibilities to attend to after school, which includes doing housework, preparing meals and taking care of her daughters and their grandparents. A hardworking student and mother!
Well, we definitely applaud Shi’s courage and determination to get an education. It’s never too late to learn! Also, we wish her all the best in her future endeavours!
