An unfriendly Google review by a Google local guide went viral after saying he didn’t want to see Malaysian-made cars at a mall in Mont Kiara, KL.
The reviewer made it clear by saying, “Hopefully, the B40 won’t patronize this mall.” At the same time, social media users also took some time to look at other reviews by the Google local guide at other places, which have mostly been unpleasant.
For context, a Google local guide is a member of a global community that contributes information to Google Maps to help people discover new places.
His review did not sit well with many Malaysians, including those who took his review as a classist remark, especially those who are driving Perodua and Proton, the 2 specific cars that the reviewer mentioned in his review which he was concerned about, as he has seen those cars a lot at the mall.
“Perodua and Proton drivers, assembled!”
His remark about the B40 and local car drivers sparked anger among social media users, and some of them have “taken up the challenge” – they’re planning to gather at the mall with their beloved Perodua and Proton!
Some also highlighted that many rich individuals are actually driving Malaysian-made cars during the weekend.
“Okay, I’ll be there tomorrow with my 2nd generation Myvi. It’s not that far from Hartamas.”
“163 Retail Park is pretty fun! They have a lot of places to go there. Sorry, I went there with my Perodua.”
Another user said that many rich individuals drive Proton or Perodua during the weekends.
“If he saw my yellow Viva there, he would’ve taken a picture and viral it.”
Malaysian TV host Daphne Iking, who drives both Proton and Perodua, also weighed in on the local guide’s take on the matter.
To those who frequent the mall, what do you think of this?
