A Malaysian who was handling an interview for a job opening had an awkward moment at work recently after he thought the job applicant didn’t show up for the interview session.
As it turned out, the job applicant actually showed up to the meeting and waited for quite some time for the interview to start, but her presence was not noticed by the interviewer.
A Malaysian conducting a job interview couldn’t recognise a job applicant and thought she didn’t show up
Taking to Threads, the interviewer, @ezzatkamarudin7, revealed that he didn’t notice the job applicant because he couldn’t recognise her due to the photo on her resume looking very different from what she looked like in real life.
In the viral Threads post with over 1,500 likes, @ezzatkamarudin7 said that he was convinced the job applicant didn’t show up for the interview as he didn’t see her anywhere within the vicinity of the job interview location.
He asserted,
“I thought the applicant didn’t come for the interview, but as it turned out, she was there for quite some time. Her face looked very different.”
Following this rather awkward experience, @ezzatkamarudin7 advised job applicants out there to use an ‘original’ photo on their resumes rather than using a photo edited with filters.
Malaysians share their two cents on the incident
In the replies, many Malaysians were amused by @ezzatkamarudin7′s experience and shared similar anecdotes.
One commenter shared how a job applicant used a photo of a smartphone selfie in front of a mirror in their resume, which left her in stitches.
Meanwhile, another commenter questioned why it is necessary to put a photo in one’s resume and claimed that sometimes, human resources executives hire just based on looks.
