Food delivery riders face many challenges every day just to deliver food safely to people’s doorsteps. These include unpredictable weather, rude customers, GPS issues and so on.
Recently, a Singaporean food delivery rider shared another struggle that he faced when performing his job; a language barrier. Taking to TikTok, the man, a Malay Singaporean with the username @man_pandarider shared how one of his deliveries was significantly delayed because the stall name wasn’t written in English.
While the name of the stall was transliterated to English as “La Shi Ni Mala Xiang Guo” on the food delivery app, the stall itself only has the name written in Mandarin. In the video, the foodpanda rider shared that the reason why the food delivery was delayed was that he had to search and ask around for the stall.
By the end of the video, the man shared footage of him walking up to the customer’s home, finally delivering the food after the delay. A dog can be heard barking and the man joked that the dog was angry at him for being late.
He can be heard saying,
“Even the dogs are angry at me. Sorry dog, I don’t mean to be late, I just can’t read Chinese,”.

Most of the comments on the TikTok video said that they have faced the same problem and felt for the man. Most think that stalls could have their names written in English to make it easier for delivery riders and customers to locate them as not everyone can read Chinese characters.
