An anonymous post by a Malaysian caught the attention of netizens recently, where the individual expressed frustrations over their younger brother’s refusal to heed the family’s advice about his girlfriend.

In the confession, posted on a Facebook page, it was revealed that the younger brother, Tim (pseudonym), met a woman through an online game who claimed to be with him “for love.”

The woman, Celia (pseudonym), claimed that she had many men lining up to be with her, including her boss’s son, who she said “wanted to take care of her.”

After hearing this, Tim felt pressured to prove himself. He went out of his way to give her everything she asked for, eventually draining his entire monthly salary and surviving on instant noodles, bread, and biscuits.

“She always goes for the most expensive options when it comes to food, drinks, clothes, and daily expenses, treating my brother like he’s always expected to pay. My brother works as an engineer and was raised through our parents’ hard work and sacrifices. Meanwhile, his girlfriend works in sales.

“Seeing how bad things had become, our parents even transferred their hard-earned retirement savings to him. Deep down, they knew the money would likely end up being spent on his girlfriend, but they still did it, hoping their son wouldn’t be stressed about money,” the older sibling wrote.

The woman’s parents often confided in him about their financial struggles

Seeing how well Tim treated his girlfriend, the older sibling alleged that the woman’s parents would often talk about their financial struggles in front of him, which made Tim feel guilty and led him to start buying them gifts and expensive items.

“Yet, everything my brother buys for our own parents, he later asks them to pay him back for, not even a newspaper is an exception. Our father is almost 70, but still refuses to retire because he wants to keep earning money to help his son.

“On the other hand, the girlfriend’s parents frequently share their financial problems in front of my brother. Being soft-hearted, he began buying them gifts and sending expensive items. Meanwhile, his own parents don’t receive the same treatment,” the older sibling said.

The older sibling later shared how the situation escalated into an argument between Tim and the family, during which he said:

“I can live without my parents, but I can’t live without my girlfriend.”

Hearing those words left the older sibling feeling disappointed and heartbroken, questioning how he could say something so unfilial.

“My brother, without your parents, where would you even come from? How could you say something like that? After that, our relationship fell apart, and we became like strangers.

“I don’t know when he will finally wake up, or if he will ever realise that the people who truly love him unconditionally aren’t the ones taking from him.”
