A lot of people are looking for jobs now and there are certainly people who just send out their resumes without taking a look at the requirements.
A post in a Facebook group shared by an interviewer has gone viral for its absurd nature.
The post talks about how the interviewer’s company was looking for a programmer and they sent out several posts with detailed job descriptions and a high starting salary.
A young man (born after the year 2000) turned up for the interview and when asked, could not produce a diploma or even an SPM certificate.
“That is also fine but after asking him a few questions, the only analogy I can give is that you’re searching for an add maths teacher, but this person has never even taught maths, they only taught drawing in kindergarten.”
When asked about his expected salary, the young man said that he expected RM3,000 and stressed that he is a fast learner to which the interviewer says,
“If you want to learn, go to a school. This is an office where people work. If you’re looking for an apprenticeship, RM3k is too high and everyone is busy with their own job, who will abandon their work just to go and teach you?”
In a follow-up post, the interviewer added more details and said that as the job role is a senior computer programmer, it is not something a person can simply take up and learn.
“If we were looking to hire an admin or a clerk then just come, you can learn on the job but this is a specialised role that would need prior education.”
The interviewer mentioned that the RM3k was brought up by the young man and the position is offered at a higher starting pay.
“Our company needs talents, if you meet our requirements and can do what we want, you can even ask for RM10k! But if you say you’ll learn or you’ll try then even RM3k is too much.”
Furthermore, the young man sent in an impressive CV so they decided to call him in for an interview. He said that he knew how to do PHP (a programming language) and so they made him do a task.
“For those who have learnt it before, they can finish the task within 10 minutes but this man couldn’t even start it and was staring at blank space for 30 minutes.”
Well, all we can say is that it’s okay to aim big but you do need to have a certain degree of self-awareness when putting yourself out into the job market.
