The scuffle between the two sets of supporters happened at around 11.20pm following the two teams’ Liga Super match at the Penang Bandaraya Stadium.
In a statement, the Timur Laut District Police said that the fight was caused by provocations from the two sets of fans outside of the stadium following the match.
The police then rushed to the scene to control the heated situation after receiving information on the incident. 7 Malaysian men were then arrested, with two stones, two traffic cones and a wooden stick believed to be used during the fight confiscated by the police.
The statement further revealed that a Kedah FC supporters bus door window was shattered after being punched by one of the suspects. Besides that, two suspects who were arrested also suffered head injuries believed to be caused by thrown rocks.
All of the 7 arrested are aged between 18 and 38 and from Penang, Kedah and Sarawak. They all don’t have any previous criminal records and their urine tests all came back negative.
PDRM is currently investigating the incident under Section 148 and Section 427 of the Penal Code, with all suspects being remanded for two days until 24 August.
The police also advised the public to not spread the video footage of the incident to avoid any speculation.
