Going for a night out in Kuala Lumpur with friends can be pretty expensive, but that doesn’t mean that if you’re low on cash, you can’t party like a rockstar!

Here are some tricks to show you how you can have a great time for under RM20!

1. Gather 2-3 of your buddies that are ready to get down and party

Just like any epic party would require, you’d need some friends. Good ones. The I-will-wingman-the-shit-out-of-you or we-don’t-leave-until-it-is-5am kind.

We’d recommend to go as a group of 4 people because the more the merrier! Andddd the price after splitting your costs will be cheaper too. Not to mention a group of 3 may make one of the friends feel left out.

2. Meet up at one of the friend’s house

Have dinner or pre-drink first if you’d like. ProTip: Choose to meet up at a friend’s who has alcohol at their place. Yeap! The ‘must’ for every budget nights!

3. Share a GRAB ride together to your party destination

Why GRAB? Because their new fixed fares make them the LOWEST costing ride in town, and you won’t die of a heart-attack while looking at the never-ending-running meter.

Save more by skipping on paying those expensive KL parking fees and split ride fares instead!

For ya’ll who’re staying in the Klang Valley, the journey from PJ New Town/TTDI to Zouk is only RM18 (FIXED price!). So it’ll only be RM4.50 divided among 4 friends. If you live nearer, you can expect fares to be cheaper.

Besides, you should never drink and drive. With GRAB, you can now party kaw kaw without worrying about forking out more money during roadblocks. #youknowIknowlah

4. Get cheap drinks (3 for RM10 beers)

There are a few places you can get cheap drinks but we’d recommend, Changkat!

Yes, we know you would’ve heard of the place by now, but do you know that there’s a ‘secret spot’ that only true budget party-goers will know?

Here you’ll be able to buy 3 cans of beers for ONLY RM10!

It’s a little hard to spot as you will have to take this dodgy staircase down to see the store (pictured below). It’s actually a legit store and travellers and party people come here to grab the drinks all the time. If you’re lucky, they sometimes would even have overseas beer (for example Dutch beer) that contains 8% alcohol.

The policemen must be in the mood for some party too – Screen grab from Google Maps

Other bars to look out for in Changkat include:

  • Baan 26 – RM10 nett tequila shots
  • Bar 51 – RM5 mojitos (7pm-9pm)
  • Gypsy bar – RM8.50 per beer mug (4pm-10pm)
  • Nevermine – RM10 neet for Tiger pints (Monday to Thursday, till 9pm)

Alternatively, these other locations also totally make the cut:

  • BiliQue, Bangsar – RM5 vodka/tequila/soju shots & RM10 JD coke, Vodka Orange
  • Souled Out –  RM10 beer/mojito/wine per glass
  • TREC – RM0 cocktails (Ladies’ night on Wednesdays & Thursdays) Sorry boys!

But the best deal will still be the 3 for RM10 beer, so grab that (no pun intended)! REMEMBER, we’re on a budget! Unless you’re feeling a little fancy that night 😉

6. Time to get your groove on!

Thankfully most bars and the occasional clubs in KL don’t require entrance fees! Head to Havana or Pisco after your drinks at Changkat to sway to good music and dance with new faces.

If the bars aren’t enough for your wild party soul, then head to a club like Zouk. Yes, their cover charge is expensive but there’s a few tricks to dodge them.

and behold…here’s the heavenly Zouk Value Guide

From free entries to APEX room daily to free entries on certain days for the ladies, international students, selected profession, and even guestlist!

7. Party the night away

What most Malaysians usually do is stick to their own group for the whole night, but you REALLY don’t want to do that! The bars and clubs are the best places to make new ‘equally alcohol-induced’ friends. Definitely extra bonus points for being a social butterfly and meeting generous party people. Because they will make sure you have a good time too 😉

Cost for the night:

Transport: RM9 (RM4.50 – to and fro)
Drinks: RM10
Parking: Nil
Club entry: Nil

Total cost: RM19

Now that’s true macam yes Malaysian budget-stail partying!

Again, if you’re out for an epic night out, seriously, don’t drink and drive. Instead book a GRAB. It’s super affordable, convenient and safe! If you don’t already have the app, download it here now.
