Buying a house isn’t easy, especially with the sky-high prices these days and naturally, you would want to make sure that the housing project you have chosen goes smoothly. This is why it’s important to ensure that the developer of your dream house is legit and above board because if anything goes wrong, the buyer is often left in the lurch.
There are legal measures that can be taken if you have the bad luck of choosing an unreliable developer but ultimately, you should do your research to make sure that you have chosen the right housing developer. That’s because if the housing developer abandons the project and runs off with the money, you can stand to lose a lot of money as the project may be delayed or stopped.
However, to prevent this from happening, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government has provided a list of blacklisted housing developers in Malaysia so that buyers can check which developers are legit. The four lists in the website consist of unlicensed developers for private housing projects, developers who defied the Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims (TTPR), developers who failed to pay their compounds and developers involved in abandoned housing projects. These lists are updated up until September 10, 2020.
1. Unlicensed developers for private housing projects
2. Developers who defied the Tribunal for Homebuyer Claims (TTPR)
3. Developers who failed to pay their compounds
4. Developers involved in abandoned housing projects
Remember to do your research so you don’t accidentally buy a bad housing project and suffer a loss. For more information, you can visit the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s website here.
