The line outside Ion Orchard in Singapore was INSANE this morning! Want to know why?
An estimated 300 people were already standing in the line as early as 6.40am, waiting for the launch of the latest Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection.
“Wah, Louis Vuitton?! So expensive! Why would they wanna line up for that?!” we hear you ask!
Well, we did some digging and here’s why these people do the things that they do.
1 . To be the first ones who get their hands on the super hyped collection (a.k.a. cool RKOIs)
Let’s not kid ourselves, the brands we’re talking about here are Louis Vuitton and Supreme. The first one is an internationally well-known French luxury brand while the latter is also an internationally coveted New York-based streetwear label.
So, when they decided to collaborate and launch a collection of accessories and apparel, the hype shot through the roof and people have been lining up since last Friday for the launch happening tomorrow (14th July).
Eventually, those who attempted to line up last week were dismissed as it’s insane to drop everything in life just to stand in the line 7 days earlier for some clothes, leather backpacks and iPhone cases. Besides, it was also because they were fed with false info!
Looks like Singaporeans can’t wait to be the first to catch a glimpse of this collection!
2. To get raffle tickets
The collaboration generated so much hype that a raffle registration had to be organised on Thursday morning, which explains why over 300 zombies showed up this morning.
While braving through the chilly morning weather, they were all praying to get a ballot number between 1 and 350 which would guarantee them entrance to the Friday launch.
The numbers were auto-generated and random, meaning you could be the first one in the line, but there’s no guarantee your ballot number is going to be number 1. Take this poor guy for instance.
Muhammad Syahir, 17 had been standing in the line since 6pm on Wednesday. So, naturally you would think he emerged as the first person in line this morning. Sadly, his ballot number turned out to be 630! How frustrating is that?!
Of course, you can still get into the shop but that’s only after the lucky 350 people are done with their purchases. Don’t think there will be anything left after that, to be honest.
3. Because reselling the items give crazy profit margins
It’s a known fact that a majority of people buy highly coveted branded items such as the ones from this collection just to resell them at higher prices.
Hours after the tickets were released, there were already people selling the tickets on Carousell, which was given out to them for free in the morning.
The same thing is bound to happen to the collection after the launch in Singapore tomorrow. In fact, some items from the collection are already available on eBay due to earlier launches in other parts of the world, and the prices quoted are jaw…..dropping.
Supreme x Louis Vuitton Box Logo Monogram LV Hoodie – US$ 11,690.54 (RM50,179)
Supreme x Louis Vuitton Box Logo Authentic T-shirt – US$1,899.99 (RM8,155)
Supreme x Louis Vuitton Leather Blouson Bomber Monogram Box Logo Jacket – US$9,898.98 (RM42,437.97)
Louis Vuitton x Supreme Baseball Shirt Monogram Red – US$3,999.99 (RM17,169.96)
Louis Vuitton x Supreme Christopher Backpack Book Bag Red – US$9,988.88 (RM42,877.27)
Supreme x Louis Vuitton Card Holder – US$819.99 (RM3,519.81)
I wonder what was the original price of these items.
4. Singaporeans’ obsession with high-end fashion
Apparently, Louis Vuitton has always been a huge thing among Singaporeans! The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Fragment Design before this had caused a chaos among fashion-lovers.
According to DaMan, when a special Louis Vuitton x Fragment Design collection debuted in Singapore last year, customers rushed to the racks and shelves in droves to inspect the items, but most of them aimed for the seven limited edition items that were not available at any other boutique.
Those items were leather teddy bear, tote bag, rainbow-patterned shirt and four other items.
Would you guys purchase anything from the LV x Supreme collection? Tell us what you think!
