One of PM10’s main promises is not to take his salary until the economy recovers, and he kept the promise immediately after he was sworn in as the PM. However, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed today (December 14) that there is someone else who has taken a similar step way before Anwar himself did.
The person that Anwar was talking about is none other than the ruler of Malaysia – Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Anwar pointed out that the King has stopped taking his salary ever since the country was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Agong stopped taking his salary earlier than me, and I think the people should know,” Anwar said.
Of course, the King has his very own reason as to why he refused to take his wage, and it’s because he understands the current pressing situation.
“That’s the King’s contribution as he knows how the economic condition has been pressuring the people,” reported Harian Metro.
How much does Agong make?
According to Act 269: Civil List Act 1982, the King’s annual income is roughly around RM1 million. Al Sultan Abdullah has been serving as the Yang DiPertuan Agong since January 31, 2019.
Anwar was named the PM on November 24, and it didn’t take him long to announce that the ministers will also see a pay cut in efforts to regain the people’s trust in his unity government, as well as an effort to recover the economy.
Who would’ve known that the King stopped taking his salary since the pandemic first hit Malaysia, which was nearly 3 years back? Do you think the King’s contribution will help the people in the long run?
