A post by a Facebook user who shared their feelings on a confession page regarding their thoughts on being employed piqued the interest of Malaysians.
In their post, they said:
- Recently, I feel like people working office jobs are suffering so much.
- We are used to the saying that we should always work hard and study hard to have a better future.
- But, with the inflation going on, it feels like an employed person’s salary is barely enough to cover anything.
- I went to Genting and met a childhood friend not long ago.
- My friend is a mixed rice owner.
- They knew they didn’t like studying, so they started working at a young age.
“When we talked about how life has been recently, they mentioned that because of inflation, they’ve been earning less.”
Then they continued in their post saying:
- Later on, I was about to gamble with a friend of mine in Genting
- Coincidentally, they’re also a hawker seller
- When I saw my friend’s amount of money per game, I was shocked!
- My friend was betting around RM500- RM1,000 per game
Many netizens were quick to share their thoughts on this matter and here’s what some of them said:
“Mixed rice owners wake up at 6am to buy ingredients and cook; their operating hours are from 6am – 10pm. Your working hours as an employee is from 9am-6pm, and with OT, it’s until 9pm – that’s still only 12 hours. How can you compare it like that?”
“Actually, it depends on the lifestyle that you want. Teachers used to say that we should study hard and be someone of use to society, but they never said about being rich.”
“It’s not easy being a hawker seller. If you think it’s that easy, you should try it for yourself. I’m pretty sure you couldn’t even last a day.”
“Since you’ve thought this through, then just quit.”
“If you’re working for someone, it gives you (job) stability, and starting your own business has a higher risk.”
As social media users, we occasionally stumble across different types of ‘confessions’ on Facebook. Some may be serious, amusing, or outright ridiculous. As it’s an anonymous post, we also remind everyone to take it with a pinch of salt.
