A couple of months ago, Penang residents decided that enough was enough with the noise and the parking problems within their neighbourhood, that comes with Airbnb and homestay visitors. They ultimately erected banners and other signages openly voicing out their disapproval of Airbnb and homestays.
And it looks like other locations are now doing the same.
Netizen, HandsomeCool666, took to his TikTok account to share how visitors have been stranded outside of and denied entry into The Cove, Ipoh, after the apartment management decided to ban Airbnbs and homestays from their building.
He wrote, “Already booked a homestay at The Cove, but unable to enter. Because starting May 3, 2023, The Cove has already banned homestays and Airbnbs. Pity all those people.”
It appears that it isn’t just the management who do not want Airbnbs and homestays operating within the apartment building as multiple units have hung “No homestay, No Airbnb” banners out on their balconies, showing their support and agreement towards the building management’s decision.
Someone even installed a speaker that regularly chants “No homestay, No Airbnb!”.
