Despite the fact that many have called for businesses to continue remaining closed during the extended MCO period to avoid any further exposure and spreading of the Covid-19 virus in Malaysia, the Ministry of Industry and International Trade’s website begs to differ, according to The Star.

As applications for businesses to reopen are now available for submission starting 9am today (13th April 2020), the Ministry’s official website suffered a major crash after its servers received over 100,000 applications from various businesses, causing it to become overloaded.

At this point in time (1.00pm, 13th April 2020), our own attempts to access the Ministry’s webpage has also failed.

The process of application for businesses to reopen during the extended MCO period is said to be completely digital and according to the Ministry’s own Twitter, business owners need not submit any additional documentation for their applications, but all the relevant information required should be prepared beforehand.

It is worth noting that permission will only be granted to businesses that are located within the designated green-zones, and have to abide by strict regulations as prescribed by both the MCO order and the Ministry of Health.

This latest move by the government has caught much flak among Malaysians, many whom raised their concerns over how the spread of Covid-19 would be contained, if businesses and their customers are allowed to travel during the Movement Control Order period.

What do you guys think of this development?
