Calling all Malaysian K-pop stans! Do you ever envy Koreans for being able to regularly enjoy live performances of your favourite K-pop artists? Well, this January, you’ll be able to experience that same joy because your beloved K-pop musicians are coming to Malaysia’s doorstep!

Grand Wave K-Pop Music Festival 2023 is coming to you this 14 January 2023 at Sunway Lagoon’s Surf Beach!

That’s right, ardent K-poppers! Why should you travel all the way to South Korea to get your fix of live K-pop shows when the awesome folks at Grand Wave Entertainment are bringing the K-pop shows to you?! 

Sponsored by Seni Jaya and featuring a stellar lineup of big-name K-pop artists, this is bound to be Malaysia’s most s daebak music festival in 2023! 

 

1. Hyo (Girls’ Generation)

Known among her fans as a dancing virtuoso and DJ extraordinaire, Hyo started breaking into the K-pop scene through her debut in the best-selling girl group Girls’ Generation. Since then, she branched out to other musical endeavours including Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG, Got the Beat! and now her own solo project as a DJ. Whether you’re a fan of Girls’ Generation or have an affinity for her DJ work, her set at this music festival is something you cannot miss!

 

2. Soda

Hwang So-Hee, more commonly known as DJ Soda, built her musical reputation in South Korea and internationally through her chart-topping songs and frequent music festival appearances around the world! Having made herself at home in Malaysia after headlining several shows, she’s ready to get Malaysian audiences pumped up again with her brand of electronica beats and energetic dances!

 

3. Chen (Exo)

Kim Jong-Dae, better known as Chen is most famous for being the main vocalist in the boy band, Exo! Apart from his work in Exo, he has also recorded songs for critically acclaimed K-dramas, including “Best Luck” for It’s Okay, That’s Love in 2014 and “Everytime” for Descendants of the Sun in 2016. After going on a 2-year hiatus to enlist for his mandatory military service, he’s now back to touring and gracing the world with his amazing singing voice!

 

4. B.I

Han-bin or B.I is best known as the former singer of the popular K-pop group iKon from 2015 to 2019. Despite having left the iconic (no pun intended!) boy band, he has made a name for himself as a phenomenal songwriter and producer! Now that he’s gone solo and topped the charts with his first full album “Waterfall”, he’s raring to bring his signature hip-hop sound to Malaysia through an unforgettable performance!

 

5. Youngjae (Got7)

What started out as a childhood dream to become a world-famous singer turned into a dream come true and more for Youngjae! In addition to his reputation as the lead singer of Got7, he is also an actor well-known for his role as Sam in the Korean sitcom “So Not Worth It” and Ha-ram in the musical, “Midnight Sun”! A year after debuting as a solo artist, Youngjae is now ready to excite Malaysian fans with tunes from his new solo record, “COLORS from Ars”!

 

6. Park Bom

Formerly part of the expansive girl group, 2NE1, Park Bom is loved among fans for her captivating vocals and compelling live shows! Her commercial success didn’t stop at 2NE1’s dissolution though, as her unique singing voice has done wonders for her solo artist breakthrough! After breaking charts and snagging prestigious awards including Best R&B Artist at Soribada Best K-Music Awards 2019, she’s about to wow Malaysians with her one-of-a-kind performance!

 

7. Shaun

This indie rocker turned eccentric electronic musician started breaking into the mainstream in 2018 with his song “Way Back Home”. After earning the attention of international audiences and artists including Conor Maynard and Sam Feldt, he has kept the momentum going by delivering hits after hits from his 2019 EPs, “An-nyeong” and “36.5”! This indie pop virtuoso’s set is definitely a must-see at this music festival!
