Last week, a Malaysian man went viral and became an “internet superstar” after he called out 1 of the local eateries for their tiny portion of butter on toast. Since then, he has been receiving invitations from other eateries who are interested to know his take on their Butter & Kaya toast.
On Saturday (13 May), Ernie visited a Teh Tarik Place outlet after receiving an invitation from them to try out their toast. In his Facebook post, he said they also asked him to give their other dishes a try.
He “unboxed” the toast to check the fillings, and while the butter covered only half of the toast, it was quite thick, according to Ernie. Is he a fan of the toast in Teh Tarik Place?
“Got brain”, Ernie said, after previously calling out the toast at the other eatery as “no brain”.
Teh Tarik Place got his seal of approval for a good and tasty portion of Butter & Kaya toast, but is that all?
Ernie told WORLD OF BUZZ that he visited Oriental Kopi on May 16, and he shared his happy experience at that restaurant via another Facebook post.
At an Oriental Kopi outlet, Ernie met Dato’ Chan, the founder of the place. After a quick chat, Ernie got his Butter & Kaya Toast, and let’s just say, the sight of the long, thick slice of butter excited him. Before he even took a bite, Ernie said,
“If you want to eat a real piece of Butter Kaya Toast, Oriental is the place.”
The toast came with 2 thick slices of butter and a generous portion of Kaya spread, a far cry from what Ernie initially had last week.
When asked why such thick slices of butter, Dato’ Chan said “It tastes better”, and that it’s an added value for customers. He also highlighted the continuous support from the patrons who make it possible for the team in Oriental to offer such generous portions of food.
Butter is probably 1 of the main highlights at Oriental Kopi, as some of their dishes come with it, including Polo Bun and black coffee where you can dip a slice of butter into your drink. Ernie even joked and said, “You don’t need money for butter here”.
