What was initially dismissed as an ordinary noise turned out to be gunfire outside an entertainment centre in Melaka this morning (8 January).
Witnesses said they heard the gunshots at around 4 AM, prior to the arrival of K9 units and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers cordoning off the area.

They had no idea the noise was gunfire, having initially mistaken it for a common argument. The incident occurred outside a karaoke establishment in Melaka Raya.
The gunshots were reportedly fired following an argument
The janitor of the premises was reportedly told by security personnel that a dispute had erupted earlier between two visitors. During the altercation, the windshield of a Perodua Myvi was also damaged before two shots were fired.
The vehicle was still at the crime scene as the police investigated the area.
The witness suggested that the shooter may have missed their intended targets. PDRM officers arrived at the scene at approximately 6 AM to cordon off the area. Later, two bullet casings were recovered, as reported by Malaysia Gazette and Utusan.

Another hotel employee in the area, who also heard the gunshots, said that he did not go out to check on it as he, too, thought the noise was nothing alarming.
“I was only notified about the matter when the police officers were at the scene.”
