It’s the first official working day under the brand new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, and we’re already seeing a lot of changes being made.
On top of the chief of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) resigning, it looks like another former officer under this organisation has also been making headlines.
According to The Star, Datuk Abdul Razak Idris, former investigations and intelligence director, has lodged two reports against the former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak at MACC this morning (14th May).
He filed the reports alleging that the former premier used his position “for gratification and for allegedly owning unexplained properties”.
The former MACC officer told reporters,
“I will also discuss with the officers here if I should lodge another report here or with the police under Section 217 and 218 of the Penal Code where certain public servants saved a person from punishment or property from forfeiture.”
“The reason I am lodging the reports today is so that the MACC can take swift action.”
Addressing the recent resignation of the MACC chief, he said,
“We also don’t know if the current Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad will be replaced by his predecessor Tan Sri Abu Kassim.”
He added that he only lodged the reports now because he claimed no action would have been taken if he had filed the reports in the past.
“Some are also worried about me for boldly coming out to lodge a report but it’s alright. I’m already 69 years old. If I die, I die for the country.”
Datuk Abdul Razak’s reports were filed not long after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad stated at a press conference last week that the MACC along with the Election Commission and the Attorney-General would be investigated for alleged corruption. The Prime Minister stated,
“If we find that they are biased or in favour of any group, including ourselves, we will have to change them.”
On top of these reports filed against the former prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir also ordered police to unseal the confidential report on the 1MDB scandal involving Najib Razak for investigations to take place.
One thing’s for sure, the new government definitely has a lot in store for the former prime minister!
