Scam Alert!
YouTube travel vloggers @ZoeandCzar recently met with an unpleasant experience while on their holiday in Malaysia.
In their TikTok video that has since gone viral, Czar and Zoe share their experience of how they were made to pay RM120 for a simple haircut at a local barber shop located in Bukit Bintang.
In the video, the barber was seen cutting Czar’s hair and chatting him up during the process, asking questions like “Where are you from?” and so on.
Thinking he was just being friendly, Czar replied honestly and said that he is originally from the Philippines but now lives in England just like his girlfriend, Zoe.
The barber then said that it’s better that both of them live in England as it’s a “hard life” earning “here”, in reference to Malaysia.
After the haircut was done though, the original price of RM19 that was advertised on the barber’s board suddenly became a whopping RM120!
The couple was shocked at the cost and even asked 2 locals outside the store if that price was normal to which they replied that it was too pricey and haircuts at local barbers should not cost more than RM50.
The barber insisted Czar pay RM120 for the haircut with a bizarre story that foreigners have to pay additional taxes for local services.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Czar said that he did his research beforehand and did not expect to pay more than RM50 for a haircut at the barbershop.
“We thought he was being friendly at first asking us where we are from but thinking back now because he was asking us about money, jobs and wages we think that he was trying to decide how much to charge.”
Czar went on to say that the barber was “getting quite angry judging from his demeanour” after the couple was questioning the exorbitant price.
In the end, Czar paid RM100 to the barber as he did not want the situation to escalate.
Shockingly, the barber even said that he “doesn’t care” when the couple told him that this issue will be going online.
Czar said that they “don’t want to put any bad names about KL as it is lovely and beautiful” but the experience did ruin their day.
When asked by WORLD OF BUZZ if he even liked the haircut, Czar replied “No, not really but it’s okay hair grows.”

@zoeandczar_ What do you think? Do you also think 120 ringgit is far too much for a trim in a local barber shop in Kuala lumpur? First time this has happened to us in Malaysia ?? #malaysia #kualalumpur #kualalumpurmalaysia #malaysiatiktok
We hope Zoe and Czar continue to experience the better parts of Kuala Lumpur during their travel.
