A foreign tourist and travel vlogger experienced a culture shock moment in Kuala Lumpur when he and his fiancée were almost hit by motorcyclists riding on the pedestrian and bicycle lane.
The vlogger, Travelwithchris, took to his Facebook page to question whether it is normal for motorcyclists to use pedestrian and bicycle lanes in Malaysia.

In the caption, he wrote, “The crazy streets of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.”
In his video, Chris and his fiancée, Gladys, could be seen taking a stroll on a pedestrian and bicycle lane by the side of a busy road in Kuala Lumpur.
Just as he’s asking if it is normal for motorcyclists to use the lane in Kuala Lumpur, he had to make way for 2 motorcyclists coming up behind him. One of the motorcyclists even thanked him for making way.

“Motorcycles here in KL drive on the sidewalk during rush hour. Oh sh*t man, bro, that’s nuts! Never in my life have I seen that. That’s crazy. Look at that! That’s how they fight traffic. Bro, that is not safe at all,” he said.
Chris pointed out that he “almost got whacked” by a motorcyclist because he was listening to music while walking on the pedestrian and bicycle lane, not hearing that a motorcycle was coming up behind him.
“That’s pretty dangerous, dude. Let me know down in the comment section, is this normal? I mean, what if there was somebody in a wheelchair here? I don’t know, I don’t mean to sound like a Karen, but Godd*mn, I almost got hit and so did my fianceé,” he added.
There’s space in traffic
Chris also explained that there was space between the cars on the road for motorcyclists to pass through.

“I just don’t think that’s the safest thing. Especially because, well, they do fit, like, right in the middle of the lanes.”
“Anyways, I just never saw that before and it scared the sh*t out of me. Let me know, is that common or is this just this specific street that I’m on, right in front of the KL Tower,” he said.
What Malaysians had to say
While some Malaysians pointed out that motorcyclists on pedestrian and bicycle lanes are normal but illegal, others chose to respond with humour.
