Yesterday, a 26 year old man was found dead after falling into a mining pool while fishing at Tasik Kiambang, Serendah, Hulu Selangor.
The deceased’s family had reported him missing to the police on the 3rd of April.
Based on police reports, the father of the man had reported the incident to the authorities after tragically discovering his son’s corpse washed up by the side of the mining pool at around 2:27pm.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department then retrieved the body to be brought to Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for a post-mortem.
“When we got to the scene, we discovered the man had passed away,” said Ahmad Faizal Tahrim, the district police head for Hulu Selangor.
According to the official police statement, the 26 year old man is believed to have drowned after falling into the mining pool while fishing.
He added that the case had been classified as sudden death.
Ahmad Faizal also advised the public who do water activities in the Hulu Selangor area to always be aware of the safety of children and other family members while at the recreation center especially in the rainy season to avoid any untoward incident.
Earlier this year, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Norazam Khamis has said that 3 rivers in Kuala Kubu Baru, Hulu Selangor have been identified as high risk areas with frequent reports of drowning.
Among the rivers stated were Sungai Batang Kali, Sungai Chiling and Sungai Pertak which are also popular recreational spots.
Our condolences go out to this man’s family and hope they can find the strength to get through this difficult time. Meanwhile, always prioritise safety when participating in any outdoor activities and inform friends or family of your whereabouts!
