One family nearly fell victim to loan sharks when their home was set on fire in Kluang, Johor.

According to a witness, a man was seen approaching the victim’s home and throwing several bottles of petrol before setting it ablaze. The fire destroyed the front part of the house and two cars belonging to the family.

In a video uploaded online, both cars were seen engulfed in flames, and the fire also affected two neighbouring homes. According to the caption, if not for the neighbours’ quick action, the family might have been among those harmed by the fire.

During the initial investigation, a note believed to be left by the loan shark was found at the scene. The note revealed the name of the alleged borrower along with two Singapore-based phone numbers.

Both the current and previous homeowners denied any involvement with loan sharks.

In the comments section, additional information related to the incident was uncovered.

According to a media statement released by the Kluang District Chief of Police, “On 6th September 2025, around 3 pm, a team of investigators and police officers from IPK Johor and IPD Muar apprehended a 46-year-old woman in Bandar Seri Alam, Masai.”

“Her records showed no prior criminal history, and she tested negative for drugs. The case will be investigated under Section 435 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.”

The police have since urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
