It’s a major concern when it comes to students who skipped SPM – the most important examination before you pursue a higher education.
Some of them were misled by online information that told them anyone could make it as an influencer even without sitting for SPM. Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh said in Parliament today (June 26) that accidents, family problems, and illness are among the causes of absenteeism beyond the control of candidates.
In fact, SPM candidates who have already gotten a job are also among the reasons why the examination was skipped.
“A total of 1,263 private candidates and the remaining 221 are other candidates including candidates from schools under government agencies, Religious Secondary Schools, and private schools.”
According to Wong, the MoE is always trying to increase student attendance at school and also student attendance at SPM with several interventions.
“We will issue KPM Expert Circular Number 1 of 2019: Guidance on the Management of Pupil Attendance System Records in the schools to confirm the attendance records.”
The state education department (JPN), district education office (PPD) will also be alerted to monitor attendance.
“We will also optimise guidance and counseling services in schools through student self-development programs and highlighting educational influencers or ‘edufluencers’ who specialize in the field of guidance and counseling,” Wong added.
What do you think of this? Is there any reason that could justify skipping SPM?
