The Film Censorship Board (LPF) limits a movie to those 18 and above for a reason – to avoid children from duplicating the violence, or the movie is simply not suitable for children’s viewing due to the beliefs/message spread in the movie.
If you’ve watched at least the trailer for Evil Dead Rise, you’ll know that the gore elements of the movie alone are enough to scare the living daylights out of children.
A Malaysian who recently watched the movie urged parents NOT to allow their children to watch it, especially after what she experienced during the screening itself.
In her TikTok post, Natasha, who watched Evil Dead Rise at a cinema in a KL mall said that an entire family had to leave the theatre hall when their child cried & screamed during the movie.
“I don’t know if the kid was possessed but he was really screaming”, she said in her post.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Natasha said the family did not leave immediately as they were comforting the child. It worked initially, but when the child cried again, 4 of the cinema crews had to come into the hall to help. When the father managed to carry his child, Natasha said something eerie happened, prompting her to wonder if a “possession” was taking place.
“The kid sounded like he was laughing and it was scary. The cinema crew then left the hall with the entire family, and they did not come back into the hall again.”
Natasha also told WORLD OF BUZZ that soon after the incident, a few patrons actually left the hall in the midst of the movie.
As for Natasha herself, she said she enjoyed the movie but strongly suggested children and anyone below 18 NOT TO watch Evil Dead Rise.
“As someone who is above the age restrictions, I enjoyed the movie. But this really isn’t something for kids,” Natasha explained.
Natasha said that one of the family members who brought the child out of the theater contacted her, and assured her that the child got better after he left the hall.
Evil Dead Rise has NO cut scenes, despite the major violence and gore. There is only 1 censored scene near the end of the movie. While this can be good news for horror fans who are looking forward to watching the movie, we would like to remind everyone that the movie has been restricted to viewers who are 18 and above.
To those who have managed to catch the movie, what do you think of it?
