An elderly woman had her car stolen at a supermarket parking lot in Taman Putri yesterday around 3:15 PM, after a man pretending to ask for directions suddenly grabbed her car keys and drove off.
Kulai police chief ACP Tan Seng Lee said the woman, who’s in her 70s, had just parked her dark blue Perodua Viva and was walking towards the supermarket when the masked man approached her.

He acted like he needed directions, but then quickly snatched the keys from her hand and escaped with her car. The loss is estimated at around RM5,000.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 392/379A of the Penal Code. If caught, the suspect could face up to 14 years in jail, along with a fine or whipping. For the Section 379A offence, the punishment ranges from one to seven years in prison, plus a possible fine.

“We also urge the public to remain vigilant and to take care of their personal safety and belongings to avoid becoming victims of crime,” he said.
