An elderly Malaysian woman recently shared how she feels more at peace after having lived as a homeless person in Kuala Lumpur (KL) after she had run away from home to escape her son, who almost killed her in an attempt to take money from her to allegedly buy drugs.
Social activist Abbe Hae took to his Facebook page to share how he discovered the homeless elderly woman when he was handing out necessities to the unhoused around the capital city.

He wrote, “About this mother, according to her, she has several children, and one of her kids is a hardcore drug addict, and he often forces her to hand over money for him to stock up on drugs. This mother is a recipient of Zakat assistance from a northern state of the country. The money is always given to her son so that she is not harmed by him.”
“She ran away to KL because one day, her son put a knife to her neck and she was almost killed. All of her Zakat assistance money was given to him to save her life. Alhamdulillah, she was not harmed after the money was handed over. Her head was once injured because she was beaten by her drug addict son.”
The elderly woman’s other children, as well as her husband, who has a second wife, have allegedly abandoned her without help.
Peaceful without a home
The elderly woman often stays at an overhead bridge in KL. She does rent a room with what little money she has, but she only sleeps in the room occasionally. But, most importantly, she admitted to feeling safe and at peace despite her current living arrangements, considering the past she had to escape.
“This elderly mother feels she is safer and more secure living the way she lives today. To support herself, besides the monthly Zakat assistance money, she sells chips and tissues,”
“To the children out there, take care of your mother as best as you can while your mother is still given breath by God,” he added.
