Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) is emphasising good and honourable governance in the Unity Government and will not tolerate any form of corruption.
According to a report by Astro Awani, he reminded all his Cabinet members that if there is corruption in his administration, he will fire the individuals involved immediately.
“I said ‘no corruption’. I spoke to the heads of component parties… if there is (corruption) during my administration, I ask them to be fired immediately,” he explained.
“I will not tolerate it. This is not a political statement, this is my conviction. I was thrown into prison, beaten half to death, tortured for a long time… not to brag, but to win and become Prime Minister.”
He further commented, “But theses are all God’s tests. I always say, we only accept small tests but to teach us, to mature us. Yes, the tests are small, but there are lessons. What is the lesson?”
“We know what it means to be faced with difficulties. We know what it means to be hurt when our bodies are beaten even though we are innocent. We know how the activities of the security forces, the prosecution and the judges are if they do not obey the greatness of the Constitution,” he added.
Not an opportunity to grow wealth or enrich family members
Anwar then proceeded to remind fellow politicians that the field is not simply an opportunity to grow wealth, show greatness or enrich family members.
“The same goes for the independence of the professionalism of enforcement agencies, I have met with the Inspector General of the Police, the Attorney General and the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and they gave the same response,” he explained.
“I want to prove that there are Malays, Malay youngsters who use their power to protect and defend the fate of the people in this country. I want to prove that people who believe in Islam will be respected and trusted because of the principles of mercy and justice that they uphold.”
