In their YouTube video 夫妻廢片, married Hong Kong YouTubers who have been staying in Penang for more than 1 year now revealed that they’ve found a home in Malaysia, all thanks to the better quality of life here as compared to Hong Kong.
The couple, Miki and Raymond also admitted that when they first landed in Malaysia, their 1st perception of our country was not the fondest.
“We thought this place was outdated,” Raymond said.
Of course, throughout the year, the couple was proven wrong after experiencing so many things together. In the video, Miki and Raymond highlight the cost reduction that they noticed since living in Malaysia.
Cheaper house rental and lower costs of driving
Generally, renting a 600-square-foot house in Hong Kong costs HKD 18,500 (about RM10,395), according to Raymond.
“But renting a 4,800-square-foot house in Penang only costs around RM2,000 – RM4,000. For our unit, it’s considered high end, and it comes with 3 parking spaces!” Raymond explained.
The shelter is not the only good thing they spoke of.
In Hong Kong, the pair revealed that it costs about HKD 10,000 (approximately RM5,606) to drive in just 1 month. In Malaysia, however, Miki & Raymond explained how much cheaper it is to drive and maintain a car.
“It costs us only RM100 to fill up the gas tank here. As for car wash, it’s only RM13 here. Back in Hong Kong, it costs us HKD 1,000 (approximately RM560) just for gas.”
Raymond also said the parking fee in Malaysia (typically RM2 per hour) is much cheaper than in Hong Kong, and said driving in Penang is less stressful than in Hong Kong.
“Driving in Hong Kong is a luxury but in Penang, it’s a necessity.”
“Come experience Malaysia for yourself, don’t listen to others”
The couple also pointed out that their quality of life has improved since moving to Malaysia, and mentioned the cost of living and the ‘smaller place’ in Hong Kong gave them a lot of pressure.
To Miki & Raymond, Malaysia also has tons of places for them to go to at any time.
“KL, Cameron Highlands are just a few hours away from us. Same goes to Taiping, Ipoh, and Malacca,” Miki said.
In terms of safety, Raymond told his viewers to experience Malaysia for themselves and not to rely solely on what they hear about Malaysia.
“Many people misunderstood Malaysia. I would suggest to come and experience it for yourself.”
