Road users in Gerik, Perak recently had a close encounter with a wild elephant which almost resulted in an accident.
In a video currently circulating on social media, including reposted by X user @nanmanjoi8715 here, the adult elephant can be seen roaming the left side of the road as a trailer passed it by on the opposite traffic.
The video was recorded from inside the vehicle that was at a safe distance behind the elephant, with its lights turned off so as not to attract the wild animal’s attention.
As the aforementioned trailer passes by, you can see the sheer size of the elephant, whereby the wildlife is almost as tall as the heavy vehicle.
Afterwards, another heavy vehicle passed the elephant by from the opposite traffic on the right, this time a lorry, which seemed to distract the elephant as it suddenly stopped walking.
It then suddenly continued to walk across the road when a car appeared from the opposite traffic.
The car, whose driver probably had the shock of their life after suddenly seeing an elephant in the middle of the road then stopped just a few metres away from the majestic animal.
The driver then turned off the car’s lights as the elephant made its way as if going to the opposite side of the road.
However, the animal then suddenly changed trajectory and walked towards the car instead.
This prompted the driver to slowly reverse the car, keeping a safe distance away from the elephant, which kept on walking towards the vehicle.
In fact, the car went backwards all the way to the curved road it went through prior to coming across the elephant and almost caused an accident as from afar, the headlights from another vehicle can be seen behind the car as it reverses.
The video then abruptly ends, with the aftermath of the incident unknown.
