As customers continue to lament that mixed rice is no longer the budget staple it once was, one vendor has spoken out to share his perspective on complaints regarding prices.
The vendor admitted that what frustrates him most isn’t just the complaints about prices, but also the 1-star Google reviews that follow when customers dislike how much they’re charged. He then explained that it’s unfair to compare today’s prices with the past, noting that back then, mixed rice was sold in smaller stalls without proper facilities and with far fewer staff.

“If you don’t like it, don’t dine here”
In a viral Facebook post by 李大叔, the vendor highlighted that customers can expect not only a wide variety of dishes, but also a comfortable, air-conditioned dining area with clean tables.
He shared:
“It’s not only the utility bills, but also the salaries of my 10 employees, as well as the increased prices of raw materials.
“The prices of vegetables, meat, and, not to mention, the food wastage. These are all costs, too. Do you really expect me to sell a plate for just RM10?”
The vendor then lamented that the same people who are unhappy with his charges will happily pay RM20 to RM30 for a meal in shopping malls, without making a fuss. He stressed that he was not running a charity, as he, too, has a family to take care of.

The vendor then suggested customers choose fewer dishes if they find the prices high. And if they’re still unhappy, here’s what he had to say.
“If you’re unhappy, don’t dine here. You have your pressure, I have bills to pay, too. I don’t owe you anything.”
He decided to voice out against the negative reviews after repeatedly hearing customers lament that “dishes used to be just a few Ringgit.”
