The 47th ASEAN Summit is scheduled to take place from October 26 to 28 this year in Kuala Lumpur, and U.S. President Donald J. Trump may be visiting Malaysia for the event.

Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim mentioned the possible visit during an event in Penang, where the crowd responded with applause. However, PMX jokingly told them:

“Don’t applaud, because I’m already having a headache.”

Trump may not be the only global leader attending the summit. Anwar stated that other world leaders are also expected to be present, including the Presidents of Brazil and South Africa, as well as the Prime Ministers of Italy and Canada.

On a positive note, PMX also highlighted that Malaysia is gaining recognition from more countries, which could lead to increased opportunities for trade and investment. According to Anwar, this recognition could translate into more job opportunities for Malaysians in the future, Sin Chew reported.

Earlier this month, Trump sent a letter to the King of Malaysia regarding a 25% tariff imposed on imported goods from Malaysia. The tariff is expected to take effect on August 1, 2025, and the Malaysian government is currently in discussions with U.S. officials regarding the matter.
