A 49-year-old discipline teacher of a secondary school in Singapore has recently admitted in court that he has taken over 100 upskirt videos of female teachers and students. The offence occurred across a time span of more than 3 years and the local court is set to deliver a sentence this November.
The teacher, who is a discipline master at the secondary school took 12 upskirt videos of at least seven female students while under the guise of inviting them into the discipline room to use his computer. He used a similar modus operandi when victimising his fellow female colleagues, whereby he invited them to use his computer at his office under the guise of data entry.
As reported by CNA, the perpetrator would place his handphone under his victims’ skirts while they were keying in data at his desk. Between April 2015 to July 2018, he filmed 156 upskirt videos of at least 38 female colleagues and targeted colleagues that wore skirts or dresses but not those wearing pants. The man almost invited male teachers to his work station for data entry.
On one occasion, the discipline teacher reportedly confiscated the phone of a student who had filmed upskirt videos of a teacher. However, instead of disposing of the video, he used his own phone to record the videos for himself.
The accused is a married man with three children. According to Singapore’s Ministry of Education, he had been suspended from his duties since July 2018 and is no longer teaching in any school. He had worked at the school since 2008 and was the discipline master since 2015 and also taught Mandarin.
The court heard that the accused would transfer the videos to an external hard disk via his office laptop. According to the prosecutor, he did not share or publish the clips but “used them for his own sexual pleasure”. He pleaded guilty in court yesterday (2 September 2022) for three charges of insulting a woman’s modesty and another five charges will be taken into consideration for sentencing.
In July 2018, a female teacher at the school lodged a police report after she suspected the accused of his disgusting behaviour. The Singapore Police seized his hard disk and found 173 upskirt videos in the accused’s possession. He titled each clip with the victim’s names or initials or with descriptions. Investigations also found that he had filmed an upskirt video of a female relative at a party his mother-in-law was hosting.
According to The Straits Times, the man faced imprisonment for up to a year and a fine for each count of insulting a woman’s modesty.
