A dilapidated Petaling Street stall structure collapses onto a passerby

According to a report by China Press, Kuala Lumpur Hawkers and Petty Traders Association chairman Datuk Ang Say Tee explained that the 20-year-old stall structure had collapsed several times before due to its unstable nature, and the stall’s hawker had used various iron frames to hold the stall up.

“It was not until the hawker relocated and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) sent a contractor to carry out beautification works on Petaling Street that the supporting iron frames were removed, causing the stall structure to collapse again,” he said.

He added that Petaling Street has not had upgrade work done for more than 20 years, with many stalls having been left in a state of disrepair. However, his party is actively applying to DBKL for upgrade work for the safety of hawkers and visitors.

Video of the incident went viral
