Do you remember when our Agong made the whole parliament giggle with a snarky comment that was believed to be directed to the opposition MPs dramatic walkout? Well, it looks like the parliament isn’t done dropping clever comments because the Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming just passed another sarcastic remark in reference to a shady act in the past.

Malaysiakini reported that Nga took a jab at the controversial National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) project when the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Salahuddin Ayub said he intends to continue the project.

Nga was quoted as saying,

“Minister, please make sure the cows do not stay in condominiums.” #Savage

It is believed Nga made that comment because a soft loan that was worth RM250 million was misused by NFC in the past to buy a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur. The NFC project was led by Mohamad Salleh Ismail, who is the husband of former Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil. Not only that, their children, Wan Shahinur Izran, Wan Izzana Fatimah Zabedah and Wan Shahinur Izmir were also the directors of NFC. Sounds fishy?

However, Salahuddin believes that we shouldn’t live in the past and should focus on “achieving government targets”.

“Let the past remain as memories. What was good, we take as examples and what was not good, we take as boundaries,” he said. #WiseWords

He made this comment after Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR-Permatang Pauh) questioned if the ministry plans to continue with NFC to increase consumers’ meat supply by 30 per cent.

She also noted that NFC has a rather negative image as legal action had been taken against the company, including one of it with PKR’s vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

If you aren’t aware, Rafizi lost a lawsuit against Salleh for accusing NFC of buying a luxury condo using a bank loan given for the project in November 2016. As a result, he was ordered to pay Salleh and NRC RM200,000 for the damages he had cause to their image.

Nonetheless, Salahuddin reiterated that the past should be left in the past and we should look into the future.

“We should instead look forward and develop (the industry) responsibly,” shared Salahuddin even though PKR may be against his decision.

On a side note, when Hasan Bahrom (PKR-Tampin) asked if the ministry is taking efforts to ensure there’s enough livestock supply during Hari Raya Aidiladha, Salahuddin assured that necessary efforts have been taken to make sure there’s sufficient supply.

Well, the shade that Deputy Speaker Nga threw at NFC was not subtle at all but let’s hope that Salahuddin will lead the NFC project on to the right path with honesty and integrity. You can watch the video of Ng making the remark here.
