In today’s live press conference by Defence Minister, Ismail Sabri, a reporter asked if married couples who were separated by states and districts could cross borders to visit each other as there have been instances where Malaysians said their applications for interstate travel were denied by PDRM officers for this purpose.
“As I’ve said before, married couples can cross districts and states to visit each other.” The Defence Minister then gave the example of a husband who works in KL and wants to visit his wife and family during the weekend. “We have always allowed this. Even during the last CMCO when regulations were loosened.”
However, Ismail Sabri added that these couples must get approval from PDRM before performing cross-border travel. “Sometimes, those who have their applications denied might be because your reasons for cross-border travel are not convincing enough to authorities,” said the Defence Minister. Nonetheless, he said that from the National Security Council’s standpoint, “we allow it as long as you have approval from the police.”
