A couple was arrested after sending the police on a wild goose chase when they refused to stop their vehicle as instructed by authorities last weekend, 10 July. They attempted to run away by speeding off while police officers chase them for 45 minutes and managed to arrest them near Taman Haji Abdullah, Penang.

Videos of the incident had gone virals on social media, causing panic among residents in the area and internet users who witnessed the scene.

According to Astro AWANI, the incident occurred at around 6.30pm, where the couple, aged 31 and 33 respectively, were seen riding in a Proton Wira when patrolling policemen instructed them to stop the vehicle.

However, instead of complying, they refused to stop and tried to flee the scene.

Seberang Perai Utara District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the incident happened after a policeman on patrol came across a suspicious-looking black car in Permatang Tok Bidan.

According to Noorzainy, when instructed to stop twice, the man who was driving reacted aggressively and accelerated his vehicle, running several traffic lights.

The chase went on for about 45 minutes, after passing through several places including Permatang Buluh, Permatang Sirih, Pajak Song, Jalan Perak, Jalan Maju, Kampung Paya and Taman Haji Abdullah Fahim.

The PDRM members finally managed to intercept the couple at the Taman Haji Abdullah Fahim intersection.

“Two police vehicles surrounded the suspect’s vehicle but the man still rammed into both the cars, causing damage to the front of the cars,” he said.

Preliminary police investigations found both of them had previous drug-related records while the male driver did not have a license.

Noorzainy said the suspect fled, believed to be carrying prohibited items. However, the police are still conducting further investigations into the incident.
