A woman in China recently experienced something far beyond her fine dining expectations at a 5-star hotel, and it all began with a sudden pain in her foot.
When she looked down to check the source of the pain, she was shocked to find a centipede biting her. Terrified, she screamed for help.
Restaurant staff rushed to her aid and immediately crushed the centipede. Her foot began to swell, prompting them to take her to the hospital. The incident occurred at a hotel in Suzhou, China. Ma, a guest from Shanghai, told staff she saw a “multi-legged insect writhing on her foot.” As the swelling worsened, she felt a tingling sensation spreading from her toe.

Her friend drove her to the hospital, accompanied by a hotel employee.
Doctors attributed the swelling to “exposure to centipedes and venomous millipedes.” Fortunately, after disinfection and treatment, Ma recovered.
The hotel apologised for the incident and offered compensation. However, Ma remained dissatisfied.

The story made headlines, prompting the hotel management to respond publicly. They explained that the hotelās location near a lake is surrounded by dense vegetation, and they maintain a high level of environmental disinfection to minimize the risk of insect bites.
The hotel emphasised that it is actively addressing the situation and has contacted Maās friend to apologise for her unpleasant experience. They also offered to reimburse her medical expenses, provide complimentary food and beverages, and award membership points as compensation.
Ma, however, felt that a 5-star hotel should uphold higher hygiene standards and was unhappy with the proposed plan.

She noted that the compensation required her to travel from Shanghai to Suzhou, a journey of nearly 90 minutes, just to dine at the hotel, which she described as ānot helpful.ā She hopes the management will come up with a better solution, according to HK01.
What do you think of the hotel’s plan?
