A woman in Dezhou, Shandong province, in eastern China, filed for divorce against her husband after the latter changed his demeanour drastically after winning a jackpot of CNY10.17 million (~RM6.03 million).
Furthermore, the woman felt betrayed by her husband after he gave her a worthless bank card, but spent most of his lottery winnings on tipping female livestreamers and even bringing one of them on a 4-day trip.

A woman in eastern China files for divorce against her husband after he won a CNY10.17 million jackpot
As reported by SCMP, the woman, surnamed Yuan, exposed his husband’s actions to Henan TV in mid-October after she had filed for divorce.
The couple had been married since 2016, and when the husband brought home around CNY8.14 million (~RM4.83 million) after-tax income from the CNY10.17 million lottery win in December last year, she thought that their lives would change for the better. Instead, their marriage deteriorated.
At first, Yuan was elated by her husband winning the jackpot, as he told her that she could buy anything she liked with the money.
He then gave her a bank card, which he claimed to have CNY3 million (RM1.78 million) inside to spend. However, Yuan never checked the balance in the account and kept it inside a drawer.

The husband spent the money on gambling, tipping livestreamers, and even bringing a female livestreamer on a 4-day trip
Since then, her husband hesitated to give Yuan money but instead indulged in gambling during the day. He also watched livestreaming by women hosts all night, tipping many of them.
Notably, he even tipped a female livestreamer a whopping CNY1.2 million (~RM710,000). Furthermore, Yuan even caught him at a train station taking the same livestreamer on a 4-day trip.

Checking on the chat records on a social media app she obtained, Yuan discovered that her husband called the livestreamer “honey” and referred to himself as “hubby” during online conversation with the livestreamer.
One of the chat records she obtained showed that her husband had messaged the livestreamer the following:
“What kind of old man do you like? How about an old man with a lot of money, like me?”
The bank card he gave had no funds in it
Things got worse as Yuan soon discovered that the bank account her husband gave her had no funds in it.
Distraught, Yuan was quoted in the report as saying,
“You have treated me unfairly… I have made so many contributions to our family. Do you have any conscience?”
“Before he won this lottery, I thought of living with him for my whole life. But he betrayed me in an instant. He once said he hoped to find a livestreamer to deliver a child for him… I really wish he had never won the lottery.”

The husband claimed that he had spent all the winnings
Following the expose by Henan TV, the husband defended himself by telling the media that he had spent all the money.
He added,
“Now she has sued me for divorce. Let the court decide everything.”
According to a lawyer from Henan Zhongdi Law Firm, Xi Junqi, a lottery prize won during the duration of marriage is categorised as the couple’s ‘common assets’.
Hence, if the amount the husband is tipping a livestreamer is far higher than the family’s average consumption level, the wife can ask the court to rule that the husband can’t share their common assets.
Moreover, if his tipping activity is based on an immoral relationship between him and the livestreamer, the wife can require the money to be returned to her.
