Guys, China’s at it again! And this time, even the Chinese netizens are calling out the filmmakers for ripping off Marvel’s Iron Man!

Not Ironman

According to Shanghaiist, the movie named Armoured War God Monkey King follows Sun Wukong, a classic character from the Chinese legend, through heaven and hell to save his beloved one. He then acquires an armoured super suit to battle it out with his enemies who are also clad in similar armoured suits. A tad bit cheesy, don’t you think?

The filmmakers admitted that they were influenced by Transformers, Gundam and Iron Man but netizens begged to differ. Those who’ve watched the trailer unanimously agreed that it was a blatant Iron Man knockoff with extremely questionable computer-generated imagery (CGI).

In fact, the suiting up scene in the trailer was so similar to the one in Iron Man 3 that we thought Tony Stark’s Mark 42 Suit had made a cameo in the movie! Here’s the trailer and it made us cringe, to be honest.

The movie is co-produced by Beijing’s Daishu Movie and Guangzhou’s Grandmet Presentation. It will debut on Tencent Video on 18 December 2018.

This is not the first time China has ripped off other movies and made their own version. In fact, two years ago, they created Mad Sheila based on Mad Max.
