Employees’ welfare should be taken care of before anything because without them as front liners, maintaining a business can be tough. Employees at De.Wan 1958, a prestige restaurant related to celebrity Chef Wan recently spilled some teas about what has been happening behind the scenes.
“Pay cuts and cannot claim OT!”
According to a viral X post, employees at De. Wan are allegedly suffering from major pay cuts, with the non-managerial employees being paid only RM1,500.
“Employees at fast food restaurants earn more than us!”
Not only that but employees of the restaurant are also allegedly not allowed to claim for their OTs. Chef Wan was also called out in the viral tweet, where he was asked to take responsibility for the matter and not to ignore the welfare of the people who are working at his restaurants.
“Datuk Chef Wan! We want money, not extra holidays! Don’t you pity us?”
“It’s not my department and what you heard is not true!”
In a recent IG post, Chef Wan broke his silence and and said that he is not in charge of the operational side of the restaurant.
“I am merely responsible for creating the menu, maintaining the quality of the food and being a partner.”
He also took the opportunity to get both sides of the story to clear his name, and here’s what he has found out – the pay cuts came with a reason.
“I was told that the employees are lacking in skills, are not disciplined, and some even cheated the company. We investigated,” Chef Wan explained.
Chef Wan added, “Do I look like someone who will cheat?”
He also shared an official statement by the General Manager of Chef Wan Group of Restaurants (CWGR), in which the public is assured about the welfare of the employees which are always taken care of.
The GM highlighted that all allegations about unreasonable pay cuts are purely defamation.
Now that both sides of the story are revealed, we truly hope both parties can come to an amicable resolution.
