Malaysian celebrity chef, Chef Wan recently spent a fortune on his house renovation in Raub, Pahang, only for the works not to be on par with his expectations.
In his recent IG posts @_chefwan58, Chef Wan shared the quotations that he was given by the renovation company and said that he had paid an amount of RM421,000 out of the total bill, RM527,000. This was only the 1st phase of the renovation.
These works include the fountain in his garden, replacing the malfunctioned gate, fixing the shower screen, and more which you can refer to the screenshots below.
Despite having paid 80% of the total bill, the works were barely carried out.
“There was barely any progress. She couldn’t even finish the tiles in the bathroom and at the driveway when I was in Greece for 2 weeks.”
After returning from his Greece trip, Chef Wan needed more renovation work to be done and before they could proceed, Chef Wan wanted a clear quotation.
The renovation company said it will cost an additional RM500,000. This means the house renovation will cost Chef Wan more than RM1 million.
“And their excuse? The materials are expensive. I asked her to replace and repaint my front gate, 4 window panels, and a few electrical works.”
The company claimed they were going to use Nyatoh wood for the doors alone, which would cost the celebrity chef a large sum of money. Chef Wan then shared the given quotation for the 2nd phase which would cost him RM500,000.
- Main door RM25,000
- 2 bedroom doors (standard door size) RM23,000 each
- 1 bathroom door RM4500
- 2 bathroom doors RM4000
It’s RM83,500 for the doors alone.
“Are these the doors for the National Palace or what? This is part of the additional RM500,000 they wanted from me, on the excuse that the electrical gate uses more power,” Chef Wan explained.
Chef Wan expressed his regret of paying them 80% of the 1st quotation earlier because he trusted them enough when he was travelling. He began to suspect not only when the costs were getting more expensive but also when he did not receive any proof of work when he asked them for it while he was in Greece.
“I confronted them 3 times and lost my patience, but they seemed not to care about my opinions. I cried last night, thinking of my money and how many victims have fallen into their trap.”
Chef Wan also regretted his generosity, and said,
“I think I was took kind to pay her when she said she needed the money.”
