In the Budget 2021 presentation today, Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul, announced that RM14.4 billion has been allocated for the Higher Education Ministry. This includes RM50million to better the infrastructures and old equipment in public universities.
To ensure internet connectivity at higher education institutes, the government has allocated RM50 million to upgrade the access line of Malaysian Research & Education Network (MYREN) from 500Mbps to 10Gbps.
Not only that, to make sure IPT students who are receiving their PTPTN loan can follow online learning proactively, the government in collaboration with Bank Simpanan Nasional will prepare RM100million to finance the BSN MyRinggit-i COMSIS which is a personal laptop scheme.
On the other hand, to encourage parents to save up for their children’s further studies, tax exemption up to RM8,000 for net savings in the Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional Scheme is extended until 2022 assessment year.
