For those living on the island state of Penang or for those of you who are planning to travel over there for a weekend getaway, you may want to pay attention to this critical piece of news! According to Sinar Harian and Oriental Daily, Penang will be facing the combined effects of two typhoons that will last from today (8th November 2019) to Sunday!
Yes, not just one typhoon, but two typhoons at the same time, as Typhoon Nakri will touch down in neighbouring Vietnam on Saturday (9th November 2019) while Typhoon Matmo will be hitting Myanmar and Bangladesh by today (8th November 2019).
While none of the typhoons will actually be making landfall within Penang itself, the island is well within reach of the effects of both typhoons, which means that abnormal weather conditions will be experienced from Friday to Sunday, such as heavy rainfall, strong winds and storms.
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said yesterday (7th November 2019) that all response teams have been instructed to stand by with equipment, vehicles, logistics and manpower ready, should the storms worsen.
We hope that those of you living in Penang are taking the necessary precautions to weather the storm this weekend! Stay safe everyone!
